Effective Leadership, Performance Evaluation, and Accountability Measures in Higher Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA)
Abstract
Background: This research work presents the results attained and the detailed analysis of the main procedures utilized in Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) accountability worldwide, with particular focus on these procedures practice conducted in the KSA.
Aim: The aim of this study is to explore HEIs accountability measures, with particular focus on these procedure practices conducted in the KSA. Gaps in these measures are identified and suggested improvements to current methods are provided.
Methodology: This study conducted semi-structured interviews in the form of questionnaires to understand the current implementation of HEIs accountability measures and to capture different points of view on these processes. The study also asked interviewees open-ended questions so that they could share their thoughts and ideas on points that might have not been covered in the close-ended questions. Microsoft Forms were used to document and record the responses of participants.
Results: The research identified key elements for successful implementation of accountability in HEIs as understood by local stakeholders, and key performance indicators that can be utilized for measurement and evaluation in auditing processes.
Conclusion: The study concludes that HEIs accountability measures in the KSA do not the follow the best practice when compared to evaluation processes in other countries. Recommendations for improving accountability measures are set out.
Recommendations: HEIs in the KSA need to establish better accountability measures to improve their performance and competitiveness. They must also aim to follow a continuous improvement process to increase their international recognition in the education and research markets.
