Abstract
This project explores the implementation of honeypots in cloud environments,
examining both challenges and opportunities for enhancing security. Honeypots
are cybersecurity tools that lure attackers, allowing for detailed analysis of attack
behaviors. In cloud environments, the dynamic nature of resources and the shared
infrastructure pose unique challenges for honeypot deployment. This study
focuses on optimizing honeypot configurations to adapt to cloud-specific limitations
while maximizing security benefits. We developed a honeypot framework
integrated with cloud services (AWS and Azure), including a real-time threat
analysis module and offline deployment capabilities. Offline testing was prioritized
to ensure that honeypot functionality remains robust without external network
dependencies. Results demonstrated effective threat detection and resilience
across various simulated attack scenarios. This research contributes to a flexible,
scalable honeypot model, advancing the defensive strategies within cloud-based
cybersecurity.
