Abstract

Research Background: Green building has recently attracted attention as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strives to achieve sustainable development and enhance its people’s living standards. This country seeks to address global warming in the region under more significant threat from climate change. However, progress has been slow, suggesting the need to explore the most important challenges faced when managing green construction projects. Research Aim: This study aims to investigate the six most significant challenges (shortage of green building experts, difficulty forming a multidisciplinary project team, the absence of green building standards, problem understanding sustainable building specifications and client goals, high cost of green building materials, and challenge accessing sustainable building technologies, methods, and equipment) that affected project management in the Saudi green construction sector and their effect on the ratings awarded to green buildings.

Description

This research can provide insights that may guide the work of project managers, green building stakeholders, and policymakers. In particular, the findings may help them understand the specific areas to improve to boost the success of the green building sector and achieve better green building ratings. For instance, the research will investigate the six most significant challenges project managers contend with in the Saudi green building sector. Consequently, the different stakeholders will anticipate them and try to address them early to ensure project success and guarantee good green building ratings.
