E-bike as a Last-Mile Solution : A Spatial Analysis of Bayside’s Cycling Network

Abstract

In Sydney, Bayside Local Government Area (LGA) is a growing region that is located in the south and south-east part of the city. It is positioned between two major economic hubs: Sydney Airport and Port Botany, both comprising the significant share of employment activity across Sydney .This study examines Bayside’s cycling network through a spatial analysis approach using QGIS software. It aims to evaluate the potential of e-bike in enhancing last-mile connectivity to three key transport hubs including Kogarah Station (T4), Mascot Station (T8), and Westfield Eastgardens Bus Interchange. The study applied a location-based accessibility measure to generate the catchment areas around these hubs within 5-,10-, and 15-minute travel times range. It tested e-bike performance under the existing cycling network and upgraded network scenario, validated by a speed variation test for the assumed e-bike speeds.
