Thus, this study provides a critical examination of Harriet Tubman myth. The first aim of this thesis is to explore Harriet's faith , her visions and their respective effect on her life. The second goal of this study is to analyze the representation of Harriet's life onscreen and it impact on the modern audience . Findings show that religion was the primary source of empowerment for Harriet as well as the source of her courage . The result of the study also determined that the representation of Harriet Tubman in Lemmons's “Harriet” served as a catalyst for the spirit of resistance in modern audience and greatly succeeds in evoking emotion in those of many different backgrounds who identified or empathized with her struggle .62enThesis
