This paper explores this as yet untapped form of tourism in Saudi Arabia. This research is based on a survey questionnaire conducted and secondary research to understand the motivations for engaging in language tourism and the potential demand for tourists whose main motivation is to travel to Saudi Arabia to learn Arabic. In order to properly develop this research, six hypotheses are produced in a quantitative study focused on non-native speakers of the Arabic language and their desire to travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to learn Arabic in a conceptual framework that defines this research. Furthermore, these hypotheses are explored using the current literature on the subject to identify similarities and pinpoint differences. The aim of this research is also to understand perceptions of Saudi Arabia, an investigation into motivation in learning a language and the demographic characteristics that might influence such decisions. Although language tourism has been adopted in many European and Asian countries for many decades, it remains a new market in Saudi Arabia. The findings include the methodology, results of the quantitative analysis and discussion including the limitations of the parameters of this study.82enTourismLanguagetourismLanguagetourisminsaudiarabiaAlternativeFormofTourismLanguage Tourism and its Potential as an Alternative Form of Tourism in Saudi ArabiaThesis
