Abstract
In this dissertation we study the stabilization of a Timoshenko system by internal and boundary frictional and viscoelastic dampings acting separately or simultaneously and complementarily in the domain. In this regard, we study several problems and establish explicit and general decay rate results for which the exponential and polynomial decay estimates are only special cases. Our results are obtained for a wider class of relaxation functions and without imposing restrictive growth conditions near the origin on the frictional damping terms. These results extend and improve several earlier results existing in the literature.
