Item Restricted The Transient Electromagnetic Field of an Electric Line Source on a Two-Layer Conducting Earth(Saudi Digital Library, 2015) Al-Najim, Fatimah Ahmad; Sami, Ghada MohamedThe transient electromagnetic is a geophysical exploration technique in which electric and transient pulses of electric current induce magnetic fields. The present thesis will theoretically investigate the transient electromagnetic field of an electric line source on a two-layer earth model. To derive closed-form expressions for the fields anywhere on a two-layer earth, the modified Cagniard method is used. In addition, this method is used to perform the numerical calculation of the electric and magnetic fields for various points of excitation and observation on the earth, as well as for various values of the earth`s conductivity and permittivity. The results from these expressions can be used to evaluate numerical solutions of other more complicated forward modeling algorithms. It can also be used in developing fast and simple interpretation tools, which can deliver quick estimation of the earth structure at the field. The numerical results will be presented for the transient electromagnetic field for various values of the permittivity and electrical conductivities of the two layers. The effect of the conductivity is of significant importance to the calculation of the interfering transient electromagnetic field in the presence of a conducting earth. The comparison among the results that were obtained for the transient electromagnetic field of an electric line source on a two-layer conducting earth with different values of conductivity is completed. The results are discussed and represented graphically and can be used to evaluate numerical solutions of more complicated modeling algorithms2 0
