Item Restricted Iterative coupling of boundary and finite element methods(Saudi Digital Library) Wael Mohammed Ali ElleithyThe present dissertation investigates the convergence Sequential Dirichlet-Neumann iterative finite elementary/boundary element coupling method. It also elaborates on the effect of several factors on solution convergence. It extends the Sequential Dirichlet-Neumann method to elasto-plasticity. The major contribution of this dissertation is the development of a new iterative domain decomposition coupling method. Unlike the existing iterative coupling methods, the new method is capable of handling cases where the natural boundary conditions are specified on the entire external boundary of the finite element sub-domains. The new method is most suited for problems involving infinite or semi-infinite regions. It is also extended to elasto-plasticity problems. Finally, the dissertation considers some practical applications, which include fracture mechanics, and deep and shallow tunnels.0 0
