Item Restricted “Insta-Tweet” Appeal Among Saudi Women: A Uses-and-Gratifications Perspective(St. Mary's university, 2019) Alaslani, Eman; Coley, FrancescaThe emergence of social media has changed many aspects of people’s lives as it directly impacts communication and social conscience. Social media has created new ways of providing information about social issues through peer communication, which plays an important role in user behavior. This study examined the impact of both Twitter and Instagram on Saudi women, and attempted to understand the factors driving women to use Instagram and Twitter and to be involved in social events. In this study, a qualitative method was the primary means of data collection. This study used convenience sampling. Due to limited time for research, the study involved a sample of seven Saudi women. The interviews were conducted in English and, in some cases, Arabic. The themes that emerged from the findings of the interviews: In Twitter, seeking important information, trending topics, giving space to Saudi women, increasing awareness about women rights while in Instagram the common themes were entertainment, self- presentation, Instagram itself, creativity and Saudi women. These themes served to answer the research questions that informed this study.18 0Item Restricted THE TRANSFORMATION OF ARAB NARRATIVE FROM ORAL TO VIRTURAL REALITY: A MEDIA ECOLOGY PERSPECTIVE(Duquesne University, 2024-04-22) Alaslani, Eman; Wachs, AnthonyThis project examines the evolution of communication in Arab culture from orality to virtual reality (VR). Through the lens of media ecology, it investigates the development of media technologies, particularly VR, and their influence on Arab storytelling, communication, and cultural identity. Making use of the theoretical perspectives of Marshall McLuhan, Walter J. Ong, and Neil Postman, this project explores the potential of VR to reshape Arab storytelling and cultural expression. The paper further discusses the historical, social, and technological dimensions of VR as a medium with the power to alter human communication and perception. This project surveys the effects of Islam on Arabic literacy and narrative forms as influenced by pre- Islamic poetry, the Quran, and narratives in Arabic. The exploration of media ecology in the context of VR and Arab narrative provides a framework for future research. While aiming to understand the role of virtual reality in shaping Arab narrative, this effort encourages the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies into the tapestry of human communication and cultural expression.20 0Item Restricted SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS' LEADERSHIP STYLES AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: TEACHERS' PERSPECTIVES(Kent State University, 2024-01-31) Alhumaid, Fadiyah; Mitchell, StephenSCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS' LEADERSHIP STYLES AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION: TEACHERS' PERSPECTIVES (131 PP.) Doctoral Dissertation Committee Chairs: Mitchell, Stephen, Ph.D. The study aimed to identify the relationship between school leadership styles and communication styles from the perspective of teachers in midwestern suburban county schools district in Ohio. The study used the descriptive analytical methods to achieve its goals. It employed two questionnaires, the first, which was designed to measure leadership styles, consisted of (31) items while the second was designated to measure the communication methods, and it consisted of (7) items. The study was applied on a voluntary sample (n = 59) of teachers. Using the appropriate statistical tools, the study reached a number of conclusions: (a) A democratic style dominated among school principals, followed by a dictatorial style, and finally laissez-faire style, (b) oral communication was more prevalent, followed by communication through symbols, movements, and expressions, and (c)Statistically significant correlations were found between leadership styles and communication methods, but there was no correlation between laissez-faire style and communication through symbols, movements, and expressions. (d) there were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a≤0.05) in all study variables: gender, academic qualification, and year of experience.15 0Item Restricted Pragmatic Elements In EFL Learners’ Request E-mails To Teachers: A Study Of Learners’ Communicative Success(2023-05-13) Kuriri, Hamzah Ahmad A; Trentman, EmmaLanguage is a tool for communication. People use it when they converse with each other. One way to comprehend what is being said is based on understating the intended meanings of the conversation, or what is called the underlined meanings (pragmatics). Pragmatic studies how different meanings are conveyed, depending on the utterances provided. A case study to investigate the phenomenon of pragmatics is selected as the methodology to specifically examine English as a foreign language (EFL) instructors’ perceptions of EFL students’ e-mails sent to their instructors. Qualitative methods are used to examine data for a period of almost three months (October, November, and December of 2022). Academic Saudi EFL staff at Jazan University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are selected as participants in this single case study. Interviews, observations while the participants are interviewed, and review contexts (i.e., formality, directness, and politeness of EFL students’ e-mails) are used to collect data during that period. Suggestions for instructions, limitations, and future research are presented.34 0
