Item Restricted EXPLORING HOW ‘FRAMING’ OF IMPACT ASSESSMENT CAN BE DEVELOPED FOR URBAN HISTORIC PUBLIC PARKS(The University of Liverpool, 2024-09-04) Allehyani, Saed; Jha thakur, UrmilaAbstract This study explores the classification, preservation and impact assessment of historic urban parks with a focus on Birkenhead Park which constitutes a significant cultural landscape in the UK. The research employs a mixed-methods approach through combining primary data from semi-structured interviews from four managers who work in Birkenhead Park and observations done by the researcher as well as using secondary data from a visitor survey which was already collected previously. This approach aims to provide a comprehensive approach for evaluating the multifaceted value of urban heritage parks, integrating historical, cultural, natural, economic and social dimensions. Findings highlight the challenges of balancing cultural heritage and natural elements, the importance of community engagement and the economic benefits associated with tourism and public well-being. Observations reveal both the aesthetic appeal and maintenance issues of the park while survey data, which already exists, underscores visitor experiences and the importance of accessibility. Moreover, the study addresses the barriers faced by disabled visitors such as during COVID-19 on park usage. By proposing a framework that incorporates stakeholder collaboration and inclusive practices, the research aims to enhance the recognition, protection and sustainable development of historic urban parks by ensuring they continue to serve as valuable public resources and heritage sites.7 0
