Item Restricted URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND HERITAGE CONSERVATION IN HISTORIC JEDDAH: A WORLD HERITAGE SITE IN TRANSITION(Saudi Digital Library, 2025) Almodhi, Alkothar; Said, LamaThis dissertation explores the impact of recent urban development initiatives on heritage conservation strategies and stakeholder roles in Historic Jeddah (Al Balad). Drawing on policy analysis, academic literature, interviews with professionals who are directly involved with Al Balad, the research studies the transition from heritage preservation focused frameworks toward strategies closely linked to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 regeneration and tourism objectives. In line with this transition, the study highlights how authenticity is being adapted to serve everchanging priorities. Consequently, tourism emerges as both an engine for economic vitality and a source of tension for social sustainability. Framed within international conservation standards, the research offers recommendations and reflections on managing transformation in rapidly changing urban environments.15 0
