    How to Extend Market Presence Through Strategic Alliances: The Case of Mastercard Saudi Arabia

    As strategic alliances increasingly become a tool to expand international market presence, attention should be paid to understanding how these alliances are formed and the aspects that aid or motivate their formation. This case study of a prominent international business operating in the financial industry of Saudi Arabia, Mastercard, reveals the insights needed to understand strategic alliances in the context of a global company operating in a Gulf state. By doing qualitative content analysis on Mastercard’s strategic partnership formation in Saudi Arabia, it is found that technological abilities, strategic alignments in identifying gaps in the financial ecosystem, creating solutions to fill these gaps, and extending the partnership network are all means of strategic alliance formation. The practical insights reveal that managers should invest in technologies that foster innovation with partners, identify and align with market trends and gaps, and apply multi-partner networks for enhanced innovation or extended resource leverage. Theoretically, the study supports the resource-based theory, highlights similarities with the network theory and confirms the significance of social capital dimensions in overcoming market access barriers. Future research can examine the evolution of alliances over time, explore the impact of emerging technologies on alliances, conduct comparative regional studies, and analyse post-partnership outcomes.

    School Principals' Perceptions of their Level of Knowledge and Use of Effective Professional Development Practices in Qassim School District, Saudi Arabia

    This dissertation focuses on the professional development knowledge of secondary principals in a high school in Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the study is to investigate high school principals' perceptions of their knowledge and use of effective PD practices in public high schools in the Rass Educational District, Al-Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia. The research questions that guide the investigation are: What do principals report about their knowledge of effective professional development practices for teachers? How do principals report regarding their support to teachers through implementing these practices? A convergent mixed method, a combination of two phases quantitative and qualitative strategies, was applied. In Phase I, a survey was used to collect quantitative data; in Phase II, open-ended responses were used to gather qualitative data. Both data sets were analyzed independently and then integrated data analytic procedures to provide a comprehensive understanding of the research findings. The participants in this study were high school principals in the Al-Rass Educational District, Al-Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia. Quantitative data was analyzed by calculating frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations to rate principals’ knowledge and use of effective PD practices. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic coding. The survey items are developed from the literature review, focusing on professional development features, including a. Content Focus, b. Active Learning, c. collaboration, d. models of Effective Practice, e. coaching and Expert Support, and f. Sustained Duration. The findings of this study provided data and information that educators, administrators, researchers, and policymakers at the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia may use to form future decisions about professional development practices. The study revealed that the majority of the sample had moderate knowledge of PD practices and sometimes used them. Also, most of them had not attended training on PD implementation in their schools, which was so high 76.5%. The emergent themes of the study revealed challenges in implementing PD, including the need for more support, differentiated learning activities to meet diverse needs, sufficient time for training, and improved collaboration. The explanations of these findings provided the following conclusions: (a) high-quality differentiated instruction, (b) barriers to professional development, and (c) the necessity of training school leaders. These conclusions suggest school leaders and policymakers at the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia must make every effort to enforce, reinforce, and sustain PD to close gaps that hinder the refinement and improvement.

    This project have identified a problem and synthesized a feasible and suitable solution to create value for our stakeholders. The project have recognized a blue ocean market and are starting to generate a buzz around our product. This document will first detail the process of identifying the problem, before moving on to how and why the product is a fitting solution. The project will demonstrate the extensive primary and secondary research involved and present insight, analysis and critical thinking/evidence. The document will then delve into market positioning and explore how we can adapt our product to deliver value to alternative demographics. Finally, this report will discuss the finances involved and the potential scenarios and opportunities over the next 5 years. This report will take the reader through this extensive process to demonstrate a user-centric process that has delivered value to the stakeholder. This document will demonstrate extensive research, insight and analysis involved in our process and how we look to launch a feasible and validated product. It will also contain a critical analysis of the process and identified learning outcomes it achieves. The product is a portable and nutritious protein dessert pot crafted in collaboration with young women and specifically tailored to their preferences and needs. This solution is firmly supported by thorough research and a wealth of valuable insights from our target demographic.

    Evaluating 4D Multiuser Construction Plan Reviews Using Augmented Reality

    Construction plan review meetings are valuable for stakeholders to discuss construction logistics and sequencing issues. Visualization is essential during these meetings and can significantly influence the outcomes. Construction plans can be visualized in 2D, 3D, or 4D environments where the time dimension is integrated with the 3D model elements. Means of visualization media differ and can take many forms, such as paper-based, screen-based, or immersive technologies. Immersive technologies add another level of interactivity that has yet to be thoroughly investigated in construction research. Collaboration is integral to construction plan review meetings, but limited research has focused on collaborative plan reviews that leverage immersive technologies such as visualization mediums. This research investigates the effects of immersive, multi-user Augmented Reality (AR) to support construction plan review meetings using 4D construction models. The study compares head-mounted AR to traditional screen-based 4D model reviews. A 4D Multiuser AR (4DMAR) application was developed to measure the effectiveness of AR as a review environment. A questionnaire was used to measure the participants’ overall experience and their preferences, along with observational data. Participants found the interaction in both environments easy while also perceiving that AR provided more options for interactivity. Participants also perceived the 4DMAR environment as more suitable for collaboratively reviewing 4D construction plans. Limitations included the limited scope of the 4D model and the selected sample's low experience level with AR and 4D modeling. Future work should consider adding more interactive features within AR applications and identify better methods to support the interoperability between 4D modeling software and AR platforms.
