The qualitative descriptive study provides detailed perspectives views and experiences of Saudi high school teachers on the significance of art education as a mandatory course in the high school curriculum in Saudi Ariba high schools. Art education comprises learning about visual art, dance, and music. It has been part of the human experience dating back to prehistorical times and has played a key part in expressing people’s ideas and emotions. Visual arts include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and design. The design has applications in fields such as commercial graphics and home furnishings. Art education focuses on students creating or critiquing art. The introduction of art as a mandatory course in high school will help mold better professionals and create all-around individuals. Art allows students to be free thinkers and explore their thoughts, ideas, and emotions and channel these feelings towards music, art, or dance. The majority of research in education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia focuses on English and STEM subjects. Thus, little attention is given to art education at the secondary school level. This study fills the noted gap by investigating teachers’ perception of art education in the region, and their views concerning a mandate to incorporate them as compulsory subjects in high school. Findings from the study will provide information concerning the need, benefits, challenges, and factors that influence their perception of art education as a compulsory subject. The study will employ face to face virtual interviews using the Skype approach of data collection for qualitative research which will be conducted on at least eight out of ten study participants. The research would consider a serene environment within the school neighborhoods where the teachers will be comfortable answering the questions. Content analysis is an approach that will be used widely used. It is subdivided into conventional, directed, and summative. The study results were conducted to investigate the possible increased role of art education in Saudi Arabian high schools. The study’s main findings were that most of the teachers reported that teaching art in high school has more positive results than negatives. Most of the teachers believed that the decision to stop art education in the middle classes in Saudi Arabia was wrong. However, the teachers are divided on the opinion on whether art education needs to be mandatory in secondary schools within Saudi Arabia. Consequently, art teachers are vital to make students enthusiastic about learning arts. The findings indicate the need for each school to have a special room with technical skills for teaching arts. The study also revealed that teaching arts to students in high school have psychological and educational benefits. It was hard to establish a direct relationship between the study of art education and the psychological and educational benefits it has.
