Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the perceptions of English as a foreign
language (EFL) students and teachers regarding the qualities of effective teachers. The
study also attempted to identify the dominant quality types of effective teachers, as
perceived by Saudi EFL students and teachers. These types consisted of effective
teachers’ personal traits and instructional skills. The study further aimed to explore the
extent to which students’ and teachers’ perceptions differ.
