Abstract

Burning fossil fuels by conventional generators is leading to greenhouse gases contributing to the acceleration of the global climate change. To mitigate such a dilemma, conventional generators need to be replaced by renewable energy sources (RES), i.e, wind turbines (WT), photovoltaic (PV), and battery energy storage systems (BESS). To that end, the integration of RES with the grid has been given great attention over the past few decades. Nonetheless, the interment nature of wind speed and solar irradiation, which results in frequency and voltage deviations as well as variation in power, make high level of the RES integration challenging. To plan the integration of these variable power resources, the concept of capacity credit has been extensively studied and analyzed.
