Abstract
This dissertation studied the role of online student engagement on academic achievement in
online courses. Besides, it investigated some factors that influenced online student engagement
as suggested by previous studies. The sample and context of the study are in Taibah University,
Saudi Arabia. The researcher used multiple linear regression to study the different relationships
that existed between the variables in order to understand the importance of online student
engagement and ultimately its impact on the students’ academic achievement in online courses.
Data were collected using an online survey that was reported to be highly reliable. Results
revealed that online student engagement was a strong predictor of students’ academic
achievement, and online student engagement was significantly predicted by its predictors. In
view of these results, a number of recommendations were provided along with some ideas for
future research.
