Abstract
This thesis aims at designing a linear-phase continuous-time data transmission filter for the baseband modified duobinary signaling scheme. The proposed design method approximates the transmitting filter frequency characteristics with the modified duobinary transfer function, the target. The approximation involves the utilization of equidistant linear phase polynomial. The modified duobinary transfer function, used as a target function, imposed stringent requirements on the approximation method. The least mean square error method is used to approximate the target function to a realisable transfer function. Different auxiliary techniques were attempted to have the approximation method provide better results. The Language Multiplier technique of the calculus of variations proved to be the best attempted technique. Then, an optimization criterion, based on contemporary specifications, is used to complete the design of the filter.
