Policies and Practices of Gifted Education in Saudi Arabia: A Case Study Analysis

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the nature of gifted education policy and practices in Saudi Arabia. The methodology used is a qualitative case study that employed semi-structured interviews and document analysis. This study revealed that no overarching gifted education policy (GEP) is stated clearly in one single document; however, there are some guidelines that address some areas of GEP. There is a unique understanding of giftedness that relates to the Saudi context due to the influence of religious principles on gifted education. The impact of religion on gifted education could be found in other religions such as Christianity and Judaism or Buddhism. Recommendations for future policy directions are provided.
