Abstract

A tensor is a algebraric construct associated with a basic abstract vector space which when identified with the space of tangent vectors to a differentiable manifold. Tensor calculus is concerned with the properties of fields of tensors defined over a differentiable manifold. In this thesis we carrie study of, and relate the different formalties of covariant differentiation: the classical treatment and that from the pint of view of contemporary mathematics.
