Item Restricted Investigating the Impact of using Artificial Intelligence to improve the Efficiency of the Mechanical System in Saudi Arabia’s Power Sector(Saudi Digital Library, 2025) alanazi, Abdulkarim; Alawneh, RamiAbstract This study investigates the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications on mechanical system efficiency in Saudi Arabia’s thermal power sector, with a focus on three key dimensions: data acquisition and processing, controlling, and predictive maintenance. As the energy sector moves toward digital transformation under the framework of Vision 2030, understanding how AI technologies enhance operational performance in power generation facilities is essential for sustainable and efficient infrastructure development. A quantitative research approach was adopted, targeting engineers working in the top five thermal power plants across Saudi Arabia. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to 354 participants, with 320 valid responses retained, resulting in a response rate of 90.3%. The study employed Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling to assess the relationships between AI use and the dimensions of mechanical system efficiency. Findings revealed that AI use has a statistically significant and positive impact on all three dimensions— most notably in data acquisition and processing—demonstrating AI’s role in improving real-time monitoring, automated control, and proactive maintenance strategies. This study contributes to the limited empirical literature on AI integration in mechanical operations within the energy sector in Saudi Arabia. It offers valuable insights for plant operators, engineers, and policymakers seeking to enhance system performance and reduce operational inefficiencies through smart technologies. The findings recommend prioritizing AI applications that optimize data-driven decision-making and predictive maintenance practices. Future research may expand the framework by incorporating AI maturity levels or exploring AI’s role in renewable energy contexts.
