The Effectiveness of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programmes in Attaining Sustainable Development Unilever’s Documented CSR Initiatives vs. Reality
(Saudi Digital Library, 2024) Alrasheed, Abdulaziz; Iveson, Kieron
This study aimed to evaluate whether organisational CSR practices have a positive impact on the achievement of sustainable development goals and establish whether companies’ documented CSR achievements tally with reality through a case study analysis of Unilever Company. The was based on qualitative secondary data collected from Unilever’s CSR and sustainability reports, academic literature, third-party evaluations and assessments reports, and media publications. The data collected was analysed thematically to identify patterns and themes. The study found that CSR initiatives conform with SDGs in intent; however, there effects and execution are not uniform across regions. CSR initiatives have made significant strides in attaining sustainable development, but their successes are limited by a lack of uniform implementation and the consequent weak and inconsistent disclosure of actual sustainability outcomes. The study also noted discrepancies between the CSR accomplishments documented by companies and the real outcomes on the ground particularly in the developing nations where there is comparatively low regulatory oversight. It was concluded that although CSR initiatives help in attaining sustainable development, there is a need a fair, realistic and useful policies to tackle the expectations of the stakeholders globally.

The ethical implications of using Multimodal Learning Analytics: a framework for research and practice
(University College London (UCL), 2025) Alwahaby, Hifa; Cukurova, Mutlu
A growing number of multimodal data (MMD) streams and complex artificial intelligence (AI) models are being used in learning analytics research to allow us to better understand, model and support learning, together with teaching processes. Considering MMDs’ potentially more invasive, extremely granular and temporal nature compared to log files, they may present additional ethical challenges in comparison to more traditional learning activity data. The systematic review undertaken during this study revealed a dearth of ethical considerations in previous multimodal learning analytics (MMLA) literature. Consequently, this study aims to identify the ethical issues associated with the use of MMLA and propose a practical framework to assist end-users to become more aware of these issues and potentially mitigate them. To gain a better understanding of the ethical issues and how they may be mitigated, the study aims to investigate the ethical concerns associated with the use of MMLA in higher education by collecting the opinions and experiences of appropriate stakeholders. Accordingly, structured individual interviews were conducted via Microsoft Teams, a video conferencing software, due to COVID-19 restrictions. In total, 60 interviews were conducted with educational stakeholders (39 higher education students, 12 researchers, eight educators and one representative of an educational technology company). Based on the thematic coding of verbatim transcriptions, nine distinct themes were identified. In response to the themes and accompanying probing questions presented to the MMLA stakeholders, and based on the ethical guidance and recommendations identified from previous literature, a first draft of the MMLA ethical framework was prepared. Subsequently, the draft was evaluated by 27 evaluators (seven higher-education students, 13 researchers–practitioners, four teachers, one ethics expert and two policymakers) by means of structured interviews. Additionally, a group of researchers adopted the framework in their research and provided constructive feedback. Based on the thematic analysis of the interviews, the framework was continually improved for three rounds until data saturation was achieved. This resulted in the presentation of the first MMLA ethical framework, which was the principal goal of this study. This thesis delivers three key contributions: (1) a systematic review of previous MMLA literature that confirms the lack of ethical considerations in the literature; (2) an examination of the ethical issues connected with MMLA from the perspective of different stakeholders; and (3) an ethical MMLA framework for higher education. By developing the framework, this thesis aims to increase awareness of the potential ethical issues and therefore, alleviate them by promoting a more ethical design, along with the development and use of MMLA in a higher education setting.

    The One Billion Trees
(University of Portsmouth, 2025) Alshayea, Abdulaziz; Brymer, Katharine
This assignment explores the One Billion Trees initiative in Mongolia through the lens of project management, cultural dynamics, leadership, change management, and risk analysis. The project, launched in 2021, aims to combat desertification and climate change by planting one billion trees by 2030. The discussion begins with an examination of the role of national and organisational culture, applying Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions and addressing its limitations through complementary models like Schein’s Organisational Culture Model. Leadership theories—including Situational, Action-Centred, and Transformational Leadership—are assessed for their relevance in mobilising diverse stakeholders, such as government bodies, private companies, and local communities. Change management is evaluated using Kotter’s 8-Step Model and Lewin’s Change Model, with Kotter’s approach recommended for its structured stakeholder engagement and long-term adaptability. A comprehensive risk analysis is provided through a detailed risk register and commentary, identifying key threats such as climate variability, seed shortages, and funding delays, along with proposed mitigation strategies. Overall, the assignment highlights the importance of integrating cultural sensitivity, adaptive leadership, stakeholder-driven change models, and proactive risk management to ensure the success and sustainability of large-scale environmental projects.

Collaborative Design of An Assessment Tool for Dental Assistants: An Action Research Study
    (2024-12) Alsahan, Basma; Mock, Martha
This action research study investigated the enhancement of assessment practices within the dental assistant training program at a Dental Training Institute affiliated with a medical center. Grounded in the Community of Practice (CoP) theory, the study addressed identified gaps in current methodologies and aligned assessment practices with the evolving competencies required in the dental care industry. By engaging dental assistant alumni, dental residents, faculty members, and other stakeholders, the research fostered a participatory learning environment and emphasized the co-construction of knowledge. The study followed an iterative process of planning, action, observation, and reflection to develop and refine an enhanced assessment tool that captures the complex skills and competencies necessary for modern dental assistants. Key findings from the study include the importance of specialty-specific assessments, the integration of soft skills and continuous feedback mechanisms, and the adaptability of the assessment tool across different contexts within the dental assistant training program. The research demonstrates the effectiveness of action research in driving educational innovations and improving the alignment between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. The study's outcomes contribute methodologically and practically, offering a refined assessment model that can be broadly adopted to elevate the quality of dental assistant education and better prepare students to meet the demands of contemporary dental care.

The impact of project govrenance on the project performance
(Saudi Digital Library, 2023-08-17) Alfaqih, Abdulrahim Hasaan; abualqumboz, Moheeb
This dissertation thoroughly investigates the relationship between project governance and results. The study uses a literature review to answer four fundamental research questions on the relationship between project governance and results. This study aims to improve comprehension and provide practical insights for efficient project management by methodically evaluating themes that arose from the investigation. The first research question delves into the most important aspects of project governance that affect performance. Governance framework, governance process, and stakeholder involvement are the three overarching topics that emerge from the thematic analysis. These motifs collectively help project success by encouraging timely and appropriate decision-making, proactive risk management, and open and honest dialogue
