Item Restricted Value co-destruction: Exploring the misintegration of resources and its effects on firms' well-being(University of Newcastle, 2024) Alolayan, Turkey; Pandit, Ameet; Lai, Po-HsinThis study aims to gain an understanding, from the perspective of hotel employees and managers, of the phenomena in which value co-destruction results from a misintegration of resources between firms and customers. The interactions between actors often aim to integrate resources to attain co-creation. In the hospitality sector customers integrate their resources, such as time and money, with hotel offerings to co-create the best experience to increase firm and customer well-being. However, not all resource integration practices lead to the creation of desired values for all actors. Resources can become misintegrated when a failure occurs in one or all of the processes of resource integration, leading to value co-destruction. Value co-destruction may occur when an actor accidentally or intentionally misintegrates resources (Plé & Caceres, 2010). The concept of misintegration of resources refers to when actors fail to combine or apply resources in a way contrary to what they intend, as perceived by themselves or other actors. Value co-destruction has the potential to decrease firms’ well-being. However, extant research suggests that there are a limited number of studies that examine the relationship between value co-destruction and firms’ well-being. As such, this study will focus on this process and examine under what circumstances resource misintegration contributes to value co-destruction, leading to a reduction in firms’ well-being. A qualitative research method was used to analyse this relationship. This research method included semi-structured in-depth interviews complemented by a netnography method through customers’ reviews on hotel services from TripAdvisor. This study has identified four circumstances for resource misintegration. These circumstances can trigger value co-destruction, subsequently affecting firms’ well-being. Such effects may occur in instances where firms do not provide updated information about their services, fail to respond to customer requirements or complaints, or lack skilled employees. Resource misintegration was found to occur mostly in five resource categories. When resource misintegration takes place, potential value co-destruction can occur, highlighted by online negative reviews and bad reputations as a result of negative word-of-mouth.33 0Item Restricted Investigating The Gap Between Training Components And Hotel Industry Requirements: The Perspective Of Hotel Managers In Hail, Saudi Arabia.(Saudi Digital Library, 2023-08-05) Aljurayyad, Saad; Omar, ShidaThe study examined the extent to which the curricula and training components for hospitality and tourism students support their attainment of skills and competencies required in the industry. The study aimed at identifying the gaps between the competencies and skills exhibited by hospitality and tourism graduates and what is expected in the industry. A case study approach was adopted, and five hotel managers drawn from two hotels operating in Hail, City Saudi Arabia, were involved as respondents. Using semi-structured interviews, the researcher obtained the views of the managers, on the training gaps, the effectiveness of the hospitality education curriculum, and the importance of collaboration between the institutions offering hospitality and tourism education and industry experts in working towards the elimination of the gaps. The findings of the study indicate that there are significant gaps in competencies and skills achieved by graduates through education and those required in the industry. The gaps are evident in the areas of technical and operational competencies, soft skills and adaptability, and resilience skills. These gaps portray a major concern about the employability of the graduates and their ability to excel in a real-organizational setting, presenting a need for a robust and industry-aligned curriculum. The study highlights the importance of institutions offering hospitality and tourism education to abolish traditional teacher-led teaching methods and embrace a curriculum that integrates practical training in an industry context and collaboration with industry experts. Such a curriculum will promote the acquisition of industry-specific competencies and skills, further enhancing the capabilities and readiness of the graduates to meet the industry demands. Future studies should consider including students as respondents to obtain their views on the same and provide a balanced perspective on the skills and competencies gap, as well as the probable strengths of weaknesses of the curriculum. Adopting a mixed-methods research design in future studies will assist in addressing the drawbacks of qualitative research to obtain more reliable findings.27 0
