THE EXPERIENCE OF BLIND MOTHERS IN PARENTING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES
(University of Central Florida, 2024) Ali, Abeer; Dieker, Lisa; Hines, Rebecca
Blind or visually impaired mothers (BVIMs) raising children with disabilities experience an exceptional set of challenges that have been largely overlooked in disability and parenting research and teacher education. With this study the researcher examined how BVIMs support their children with disabilities in key areas such as behavior management, educational advocacy, caregiving, and accessing resources. Additionally, the researcher sought to understand how these mothers navigate their experiences as they challenge with societal perceptions, institutional barriers, and the daily caregiving demands. The researcher employed a qualitative case study methodology, using in-depth individual interviews and a focus group with six BVIM participants. Each participant provided reflective summaries after their interviews, which were analyzed alongside the interview transcripts. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo 12 software to identify patterns and themes within the data. The data analysis revealed three major themes: (1) disability, with sub-themes of stigma, and health and well-being; (2) support, with sub-themes of social and community support and educational challenges; and (3) transportation, identified as a critical issue with no sub-themes. The findings emphasized the resilience of BVIMs when faced with significant barriers. Despite the stigma they encountered during their parenting experiences, these mothers continued to advocate for their children’s needs within educational, medical, and community systems. The lack of adequate support and transportation services further complicated their parenting role, making it crucial for future interventions to address these gaps. The researcher calls for improvements in policies, education, support systems, and teacher preparation to better meet the needs of BVIMs raising children with disabilities.

The Role of Nostalgia in Encouraging Sustainable Luxury Consumption
(University of Reading, Henley business school, 2024-09-05) Redwan, Amna; Irene
This study investigates the complex relationship between nostalgia and sustainable luxury consumption, elucidating the role of nostalgia in influencing consumer intention and behaviour regarding sustainable luxury services. Using qualitative data gathered from twelve one-to-one interviews, the research explores the intersection of nostalgia and sustainability within the luxury service market. Key findings reveal that nostalgia significantly enhances the appeal of sustainable luxury by adding emotional depth and perceived value. Motivators such as emotional connection and alignment with personal values are crucial drivers for consumers to invest in luxury experiences that integrate both nostalgia and sustainability. The study also identifies several barriers to sustainable luxury consumption, including cost, lack of awareness, and the challenge of preserving core luxury attributes while implementing sustainable practices. Unexpectedly, the study found that while simplicity in sustainable luxury services is often negatively perceived as basic or primitive, it is viewed more favourably when integral to a nostalgic experience. This suggests that nostalgic elements can help reframe the appeal of sustainable practices. Integrating interactive nostalgic elements into sustainable luxury experiences was also found to positively impact their appeal, and combining nostalgia with sustainability was shown to enhance emotional connection and encourage ethical consumption. These insights provide actionable strategies for luxury brands to create compelling sustainable offerings, particularly in the service sector. The study contributes to theoretical frameworks by integrating nostalgia with sustainability in luxury services, extending beyond traditional luxury fashion and goods to encompass sectors such as hospitality, travel, and leisure. The research addresses gaps in the literature by investigating the nuanced interplay between nostalgia and sustainability and offers valuable implications for luxury brand management.

A Review Of Small Fish Movement And Personality Behavior To And From Ephemeral Wetlands Of The Florida Everglades
(Saudi Digital Library, 2022-10-31) Alsharif, Rola; Jeffrey, Hoch; Lauren, Nadler
Everglades freshwater fish communities are increasingly under threat from anthropogenic pressures, particularly alteration to the hydrological regime (e.g. drainage ditches that lower water tables or culverts that direct agricultural or urban runoff into the site). The ecological consequences of altered hydrology for ephemeral wetland ecosystems include declining fish abundance and diversity, food web connectivity, microhabitat availability for reproduction, refuge, and migration. Understanding how individual behaviors and personality of freshwater fish in ephemeral wetlands scale up to population and landscape-level processes is critical to develop the best management and conservation strategies for preserving fish biomass in freshwater ecosystems. Therefore, in this thesis, I review the studies focused on fish movement behavior and personality in wetlands to aid resource managers in developing evidence-based conservation strategies, to develop parameterized models of animal migration across landscapes, and to improve our understanding of metacommunities.
