SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS LEADING TO CAREGIVER STRESS AND BURDEN IN SENIORS CARING FOR OTHER SENIORS
(Florida International University, 2025) Altukhys, Abdulmajeed; Beaulaurier, Richard L
The role of informal caregivers remains critical for many older adults. Informal caregivers are unpaid individuals, including friends and family members. This research examined the primary factors affecting stress and burden levels among older adult informal caregivers. Specifically, it aimed to identify the main factors influencing stress and burden levels and to determine whether personal or environmental factors have the greatest impact, based on psychological stress theory and the stress process model. Data from the 2020 U.S. nationally representative survey on caregiving were used in this study (NAC & AARP Public Policy Institute, 2020). Two hierarchical multiple linear regression analyses (MRA) were conducted for RQ1 and RQ2. Three moderation analyses were employed for RQ3 to test the multivariate hypotheses regarding gender and support needs, examining their moderating effects on the association between caregiving stress and burden variables. This study consisted of two separate dependent variables stress and burden and controlling for demographic variables (age, gender, race and ethnicity, education, and income). This study included two sets of factors that comprise the independent variables: environmental variables (ADLs, IADLs, number of adult recipients, and number of health conditions of the recipient) and personal variables (caregiving hours and support needs). The sample size for this study comprised 659 informal caregivers. Males comprised 44% of the sample, while females comprised 55.7%. The results from multivariate testing indicated that approximately 21% of the variability in informal caregivers' stress levels is explained by the selected variables. The results revealed a statistically significant relationship between caregiver gender, support needs, burden, and stress. However, when examining gender and support needs as moderators of burden and stress, no moderating effect was observed. Among all predictors, caregivers' support needs emerged as the strongest predictor of both stress and burden. The study provided a discussion of the findings, including a discussion of limitations, implications for social work practice and policy, and directions for future research.

The Impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Factors on Firm Financial Performance: An Empirical Study of Non-Financial Constituents of the S&P 500
(University of Liverpool, 2024-09) Fallatah, Ahmed Zaki; Giorgioni, Gianluigi
Abstract This study empirically examines the influence of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors on financial performance of non-financial firms listed on the S&P 500. It analyzes data for 425 firms over the period from 2010 to 2023. This research study apply panel data analysis using Generalized Least Squares (GLS) Regression and reveals a significant and positive relationship between overall ESG scores and Corporate financial performance metrics, Return on Equity, Return on Assets and Tobin's Q for current S&P 500 firms. For the firms that were removed from the index, while ESG scores significantly enhance Tobin's Q in terms of market evaluation and their impact on financial measurement is less pronounced. The analysis highlights that environmental scores influence financial outcomes across both current and dropped firms. Social scores positively affect financial performance in current firms but show limited impact for firms removed from the index. Governance scores appear to have a more nuanced impact, suggesting that good governance alone may not be enough to differentiate performance among firms. The study shows the importance of robust ESG practices, particularly in environmental and social pillars, for enhancing corporate financial success and market valuation. The firm’s market position and financial health may influence the relationship between ESG factors and immediate financial returns. The research shows that ESG investments can boost a market position of company and resilience and their direct impact on immediate financial returns can vary depending on the company’s financial health and market status. Therefore, this study reveals the complex relationship between ESG practices and financial performance. The findings provide useful valuable insights for business leaders, investors, and policymakers looking to align ESG practices with financial goals and foster sustainable, long-term growth.

Exploring teachers’ and students’ efficacy in the teaching and learning of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Saudi Arabia
(Saudi Digital Library, 0023-06-06) Alkhairi, Ahmad Hassan E; Alkhairi, Ahmad
This qualitative case study explored teaching and learning practices of English-as-a Foreign Language (EFL) in the school context in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The study is underpinned by Bandura’s (1977, 1986) triadic reciprocal causation model, derived from his Social Cognitive Theory. In particular, the research focused on the teacher-efficacy of Saudi EFL teachers and the self-efficacy of students learning the English language. The approach of the research explores self-efficacy through a qualitative method. Data were collected through individual semi-structured interviews with secondary school teachers and through focus group discussions with their students, through classroom observations, and through examination of teaching materials to comprehend the teaching and learning environment of EFL in Saudi schools.
