Abstract
The present study attempts to assess the role of the breadth or size and the depth
knowledge of vocabulary in reading comprehension of the English majors at the Faculty
of Arts in Riyadh University for Girls.The study addresses three variables: reading comprehension, vocabulary size and
vocabulary knowledge. Reading comprehension is used in this study as a scale for the
other variables. The assessment is carried on by means of four tests
