Amine-borane (AB) compounds have great potential to be employed as hydrogen storage materials. This may provide a sustainable and green way to reduce negative environmental impact caused by fossil fuel consumption. Metal-catalysts were developed to release the hydrogen from the AB compounds via the dehydrogenation reaction. However, dehydrogenation (i.e. dehydrocoupling) reactions have different performance in terms of maximum hydrogen release, waste generation and energy consumption based on the type of the catalysts used. Therefore, it is important to investigate and compare these reactions using green chemistry principles to develop a more efficient, green sustainable amine-borane dehydrocoupling process.
