The Effectiveness of Emergency Nurse Practitioners: Length of time and the Quality of care in the Emergency Department
Abstract
Research in the field of health care management seeks to understand ways
to increase overall efficiency by maximising the productivity of health
professionals including nurses and doctors, in order to enhance the quality
of health care. The role of nursing practitioners in delivering care has been
especially considered as a means of addressing the gaps in access to highquality care. A rationale for the introduction of nursing practitioners in
emergency care is to provide more efficient and quicker service to patients,
thereby dealing with the issue of patient dissatisfaction. In-hospital care
and, the emergency services were bound by certain key performance
indicators which relate to the length of stay in emergency care. Given this,
improving the skills and knowledge of emergency nurse practitioners is
vitally important. This can be achieved by encouraging them to have extra
courses concerned with the quality of emergency department care. This
study aimed to investigate the impact of the emergency nurse practitioner’s
role with the goal of decreasing the length of time spent on treatment but
also increasing the health care quality delivered to the patient
