Exploring The Challenges Facing Project Management Offices in Saudi Arabia and Their Solutions
Abstract
Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 has made a surge in the number of projects in the country,
necessitating the establishment of many Project Management Offices (PMOs) to ensure efficient
execution and alignment with strategic objectives. This dissertation investigates the challenges
facing PMOs in Saudi Arabia, as well as their solutions applied and reasons if challenge persist.
Using a quantitative survey methodology, data were collected from PMO professionals across
various fields, including both public and private sectors. Revealing common challenges, with the
primary three including lack of resources, lack of staff knowledgeable about PMO, and lack of
proper automation. The findings also underline that both the public and private sectors encounter
similar challenges with different percentages.
While this study contributes valuable insights into project management field in Saudi Arabia, it
has some limitations such as sample representativeness and survey methodology consideration.
Future research directions include sector-specific analyses and exploration of technological usage
to enhance PMO performance. By leveraging these findings, PMOs can optimize their operations,
contributing to the project success
