INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS' BELIEFS ABOUT L2 LEARNING AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE STUDY-ABROAD EXPERIENCE

Abstract

This study’s underlying context is that studying abroad directly impacts language learning by introducing international students to language learning programmes, thereby transforming their beliefs about the host country’s language. This paper aims to discover the relationship that exists between students' beliefs about English language learning and their perceptions of their own language development while studying abroad. The methodological structure for this research has helped in providing the reader with a critical evaluation of the topic and improving the reliability and validity of the qualitative data that has been collected. The positivist philosophy that has been followed contributes to the research’s credibility. The data analysis methods and structural limit and ethical considerations have also been highlighted to make the study worthwhile. Chapter 4 summarised the results of all methodologies and processes used in this investigation. Based on the literature review’s findings, data relevant to this study’s research field have been produced and collected. This study’s findings were derived from interviews with five participants and a review of various research papers. Moreover, Chapter 5 covered a thorough evaluation of the overall study. The findings of the primary and secondary research have been comprehensively discussed, with a focus on identifying the beliefs of international students in the United Kingdom on English language learning. This paper evaluated motivation, challenges, theories and concepts related to second language L2 learning, as well as the relationship between second language learning and studying abroad. In Chapter 6, a few recommendations have been made to solve the current linguistic challenges faced by international students studying in the UK. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of education stakeholders to take initiative and collaborate to address the issues that foreign students experience when communicating with locals. To provide international students in the UK with a better experience, suggestions in line with how they may easily manage their lives in a foreign country were likewise given.
