Determining The Pro-Apoptotic Effects of Different Flavonoids in Breast Cancer Cell Line
Abstract
The study exhibited the potential cytotoxic effects of different flavonoids in MD-MB231
cancer cells. All flavonoids were able to reduce cell proliferation significantly, and two of the three
significantly increased the rate of apoptosis. BCL-2 gene expression was not significantly reduced;
however, studies emphasised its importance to be regarded as a ratio to BAX. Other than improving
the bioavailability of flavonoids, future studies should focus on understanding the different pathways
involved in MDA-MB-231 cells, as our data suggest that other pathways are targeting cell proliferation
other than apoptosis.
