Abstract

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will inevitably bring new hazards with unpredictable implications to replace human decision-making. This, of course, will result in calls for regulation. Artificial intelligence clearly poses risks that existing legal and regulatory frameworks are insufficient to address, for example, liability. Hence, who will lead the accountability in cases of infringement and damage? Other examples include making legal decisions, and self-driving cars. Even though current regulations like tort law can be effective in some cases, new regulations will be necessary, due to the power and complexity of AI. The EU, even within the AI industry, is starting to call for the regulation of the sector by launching a new Proposal for AI regulation. Nevertheless, while regulation can have a profound positive impact, it also carries risks. This dissertation attempts to solve this problem by ascertaining whether the new Proposal of a Regulation for AI is efficient, and if so, what gaps remain within it, and how these should be overcome to ensure the success of AI integration.
