Cultural Influences on Attracting Tourists

Abstract

Cultural heritage tourism is one of the developing segments of tourism that meets the needs of tourists in observing and preserving cultural heritage while providing economic benefits for the community. This study explores the cultural influences on attracting tourists in three culturally rich destinations: France, Japan, and Morocco. Based on the principles of qualitative research , and employing semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and content analysis, the research explores the role of cultural heritage in tourism attraction, tourists' perceptions of cultural authenticity, and the promotion of sustainable tourism using rural areas in post-socialist Romania as a case study . Research indicates how cultural tourism is key in marketing tourism but emphasizes the importance of enhancing authenticity for visitors. This comparative analysis allows for the identification of similarities, such as overtourism and cultural commodification, as well as differences in the approaches taken by each country. Some of the proposed suggestions include diligence in promoting sustainable tourism, engagement with locals, and cooperation in the use of ICT to enhance cultural heritage while encouraging tourism. The research advances knowledge in the area of sustainable cultural tourism and provides recommendations for those in power, businesses, and Individuals to remain sensitive to the community.
