Abstract

Abstract Big Data has become a key component in many parts of our daily leisurely and professional lives, showing an increasing range of potential uses. From storing massive amounts of information to categorizing it and sharing it to multiple entities, to analyzing it, and manipulating that data according to desired preferences or pre-set configurations – so-called “Big Data” is expected to revolutionize how we handle information in our business contexts, our social networks, and how we extract and predict information on topics ranging from the global economy to meteorology. However, there is a perceived gap in the development and implementation of Big Data’s possibilities into the construction sector, forming questions on the barriers and potential difficulties that are associated with this lack of integration. There is a body of research that displays Big Data’s impact and opportunities within industry, and its possibilities to jump across current barriers, but this research has a focus on a more dynamic association between Big Data and Construction sector in particular. This research hypothesizes the great potential that Big Data has in the construction sector, while arriving at the conclusion on the strong benefits relating to construction management, waste minimization, and green construction.
