Analysis of the factors influencing supplier selection of SMEs in retail sector in the UK
Abstract
The research aimed to analyse the key factors influencing the supplier selection of SMEs in retail sector in the UK. The literature review helped to shortlist five relevant factors when it comes to selecting the suppliers which included (1) the extent of strategic commitment from the supplier to buying firm, (2) ability of the supplier to meet the buyer’s needs, (3) capabilities possessed by the supplier, (4) proximity and fit between the buyer and supplier and (5) integrity exhibited by the supplier. The methodology adopted by this study involved mixed method research involving questionnaires and interviews. A total of 59 questionnaire responses were received from SME business owners in retail sector in the UK which were analysed using descriptive statistics, regression and correlation techniques. Interviews were conducted with five of these participants, the responses analysed using thematic analysis and compared to the survey results.
