Abstract
Megaprojects have become a common phenomenon in the global development landscape as most countries emphasize regional and national economic growth in order to enhance their social and political environment. Such projects, particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle are transforming the economic landscape by acting as catalysts for growth and diversification. This study aims to address weaknesses in the current implementation model by examining the effects of megaprojects on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the entirety of the Middle East. The quantitative data was gathered by utilizing survey questionnaires from 37 respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analytical methods. The findings reveal that mega projects have a wide range of effects, which tend to be environmental, political, and social. The results also show that when undertaking different mega projects, risks, including displacement of individuals, restriction of movement, lack of funds and resources, as well as loss of lives, are bound to emerge. These findings provide empirical evidence to a body of literature by demonstrating the significant effects of mega projects, particularly on social, political, and economic environments. As a result, stakeholders can utilize this study to come up with effective strategies to successfully implement mega projects.
