Abstract

In recent years, the use of software and applications to learn more about a language has become commonplace. This technology can assist the learner in obtaining more information about the vocabulary, collocations, grammar, etc. of a particular language. One example are concordancers, which are a powerful type of software that can provide useful information about the occurrence of words in various contexts (concordance). For many years, the development of such a tool for Arabic was limited because of the language’s complexity, but this complexity and associated difficulties are the very reason why such a tool should be built. Therefore, the aim of this project was to construct an automated Arabic concordancer with a simple interface. This concordancer will depend on using an Arabic corpus. The general purpose of this concordance software is to provide users with more information about searched words, including the concordance of the entered word, the root of the word, the domain of each concordance, and the words derived from the same root. The strategy adopted when creating this software depends on the development of two dictionaries: the first dictionary includes all of the occurrences of a word in the corpus and their concordances, while the second dictionary includes the roots of words and the words derived from these roots. The concordance software is thus an educational tool that, in the context of this project, could assist learners of Arabic and Arabic societies. Additionally, the software can serve as a convenient tool for people of different ages to obtain more detailed information about Arabic words and their concordances.
