Employee turnover is an ongoing challenge in the hospitality industry, affecting the long-term success and competitiveness of hotels. A study has been conducted to explore the reasons leading to turnover and to examine the role of Human Resource Management (HRM) strategies in reducing turnover intentions within a five-star hotel in Saudi Arabia. The study employed a qualitative method and deductive approach, using semi-structured phone interviews that involved eight hotel employees and the hotel HR manager. The research has identified various key factors that contribute to turnover, such as job insecurity, limited opportunities for career progression, and an unsupportive work environment. Additionally, job stressors like imbalanced effort-compensation ratios and administrative pressures tend to increase turnover intentions. The study emphasises that HRM practices are crucial in addressing these challenges. It highlights the importance of employee support, training, incentives, and leadership style. The study suggests investing in root cause analysis, customising HR solutions, prioritising employee relationships, promoting career advancement, and utilising research findings for strategic retention efforts. It is recommended to conduct further research on employee turnover in various hospitality sectors across different cities and regions, to develop effective retention strategies. By aligning human resource practices with organisational objectives, hotels can create a conducive work environment, decrease turnover rates, and attain long-term success in the highly competitive hospitality industry.
