“Using Evidence-based medicine (EBM) to identify what factors contribute to decision making in prescribing for schizophrenia: a qualitative thematic analysis
Abstract
Schizophrenia is a chronic, serious, and persistent mental disorder has a negative effect on behaviors, thoughts, and feelings of patients. Schizophrenia is one of the leading causes of disability on a world scale. Also, it is considered one of the major causes of death in the USA. Although the NICE guidelines did not recommend atypical antipsychotics over typical antipsychotics, or vice versa, previous studies showed that atypical antipsychotics are more likely to be prescribed by therapists. Consequently, there is a need to examine the factors that affect clinical decision making.
