Abstract
Quality Improvement (QI) is crucial for enhancing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes; however, primary healthcare centers (PHCs) continue to face persistent barriers to its effective implementation. Aim: The study aimed to explore the opinions and views of primary healthcare providers (HCPs) toward the quality improvement challenges in PHCs in Khobash governorate. Methods: A phenomenological design was used to capture in-depth perspectives from 67 primary HCPs and the QI team across six PHCs, recruited through convenience sampling. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and semi-structured interviews and analyzed with SPSS for descriptive statistics. Results: Participants perceived QI as a continuous, data-driven, and collaborative process for improving patient safety and service quality. Reported QI initiatives included electronic medical records (EMRs), SMS reminders, triage systems, and standardized protocols, which improved efficiency and reduced errors. Barriers to QI implementation include high workload, limited training, outdated systems, unclear guidelines, insufficient resources, and resistance to change. Strategies for quality improvement include teamwork, continuous training, leadership engagement, integration of digital tools, audits, and patient feedback.
