Abstract

This project was focused on exploring the benefits of servant leadership in Saudi health care, emphasising that the servant leadership model is optimally suited for the dynamic field of health care. The aim of this research was to provide a relevant argument for the adoption of servant leadership because of its numerous benefits to all stakeholders in the Saudi health care sector. Four research objectives were outlined in this study: to explore the link between servant leadership and employee motivation; to explore the link between servant leadership and patient satisfaction; to emphasise how the use of servant leadership can contribute to the modernisation of the Saudi health care system; and to provide feasible recommendations to increase the quality and efficiency of care of the Saudi health care sector. The research methodology used in this study was extended literature review, which enabled the researcher to explore the respective objectives in detail. The main research finding presented in this study is that the use of servant leadership increased employee motivation to perform better, as well as improved patient satisfaction. At the same time, strong arguments are provided to support that servant leadership can help to improve the functioning of the Saudi health care system. By following the specific recommendations outlined for stakeholders in the Saudi health care field, the functioning of the respective system could be further improved.
