This thesis looks deeply into the ideas and opinions of the Egyptian thinker Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd as one of Islam’s modernist thinkers. It aims to dismantle and analyse the curriculum of Abu Zayd’s reform of Islamic Sharia, focusing on the main sources of Islamic law: the Qur'an, the Sunnah, consensus (ijma’), and analogy (qiyas). This study finds that in the Sharia reform project of Abu Zayd, in which he criticised traditional Islamic thought, there are a number of contradictions and weaknesses
