Abstract:

In this thesis paper firstly the concept of sustainable tourism has been elaborated. AlUla, a Saudi Arabian city has been considered for this research work that is nourished with its unique culture and heritage. Every significant aspect of the research topic has been depicted in this paper in the context of AlUla. The data has been critically analyzed to effectively address the research questions, aims and objectives. All the contemporary issues and aspects of AlUla regarding tourism have been well-evaluated to concretize the conclusion of the research that will reflect the gist of the whole file, and also suggest future suggestions to escalate the work. The literature review chapter focuses on identifying the theories related to sustainability and sustainable tourism and features the concept of ecotourism that can be of use for the region of AlUla as the communities as well as the authorities are striving towards achieving sustainable tourism. Therefore, various projects, programs, and steps taken by the authorities along with the involvement of the local community have been discussed. Also, the discussion has been stretched to the various heritage and cultural sites that have gone through and will further be involved with the process of rejuvenation to safeguard the glorious past of the land. The vision and mission of the authorities to achieve community involvement and improve economic development through sustainability is the main focus of the section. The main body chapter details the analysis of the interviews. The responses recorded from the manager, local citizens, and tour guides from AlUla have definitely helped present a clearer picture of the issue of sustainability and its association with the community.
