dc.description.abstractThere has been massive adoption and acceptance of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology over the past several years. IoT is applied in different areas such as transportation, healthcare, smart buildings, public safety, parking management, and traffic systems. These applications are designed to automate processes and activities, and exchange data in different forms, as required. Some of the data captured and exchanged within the IoT networks are very sensitive, and due to the security issues at different layers of the IoT architecture, there is a lot of concerns that the confidentiality, integrity, and privacy of these data can be breached. This research paper investigates the privacy threats posed by smart devices in an IoT network, specifically smart cities, and the possible solutions that can be implemented to address these threats. The integration of the IoT and blockchain technology with an advanced architecture can provide an additional security layer in the IoT network, and this looks at how this architecture can be implemented and tested.
