Remineralisation ability of Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cements (RMGICs)
Abstract
Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the ability of resin modified glass ionomer cements in
remineralisation of the tooth structure.
Materials and methods: The electronic databases PubMed and Google Scholar were used to collect the articles that associated with RMGICs remineralization ability. The search was done with using specific keywords and including studies that published between 1995 to 2019.
Results: RMGICs have high ability to releasing fluoride when compared with other material such as conventional GICs, composites or amalgam. This cement has the ability to reduce the caries depth and form the crystals. Immersion media that used in the experimental studies have shown high influence on fluoride releasing. Also, addition of remineralising agents has significant role in improving the ability of RMGIC in remineralization.
Conclusion: RMGICs have high ability to remineralise the tooth structure and this is confirmed by assessing its ability in releasing fluoride, forming apatite and reducing the demineralisation lesions.
