Abstract
Liquid Crystal Elastomers (LCE) are stimuli-responsive polymers that are known for their unique
mechanical actuation, therefore; tailoring their surface properties is a priority to widen their application range.
This study focuses on creating hydrophobic surfaces on LCEs by integrating nanoparticles (NPs). NPS-modified
LCEs were synthesized, and their properties were characterized, including surface roughness, contact angle,
and mechanical testing. The NPs modification has increased the water contact angle, indicating an enhancement
in the hydrophobicity. The modified surfaces effectively repel water droplets, demonstrating a successful
hydrophobic modification achieved, opening the doors for a wide range of robotics and biomedical applications.
