Abstract

This study describes the state of moral education in Saudi kindergartens, with a particular emphasis on teaching morals through DST. The Saudi Ministry of Education made a set of digital recordings of all the stories normally used in moral education in kindergarten classrooms. This study focuses on (a) teachers’ attitudes towards using DST to teach morals and (b) how teachers perceive the difference between DST and TST in moral education. A mixed-methods design was implemented: teachers completed questionnaire and participated in semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that, based on the teachers’ perspectives, DST is an important factor to consider when teaching moral values to children. These findings should be useful to Saudi policymakers, teachers and researchers, providing vital information about using DST for moral education in kindergarten.
