Abstract
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are emerging as a versatile platform for regenerative medicine and across multiple clinical fields. More than 100 interventional trials have been initiated since 2014, yet the economics and biomanufacturing infrastructure of iPSC-derived cell therapies remain poorly characterised. This dissertation set out to quantify the global biomanufacturing market over the next decade and to identify the technological and strategic factors shaping its development. The project integrated global trial data with archetype-based manufacturing models to quantify and forecast market demand. Results show the market expanding from USD0.6 million to USD6.1 million in a span of 7 years with a projection to reach USD15.9 million by 2035. This work provides the first structured quantification of iPSC-derived cell therapies biomanufacturing demand and offers evidence-based insights to guide future policy, investment, and industrial strategy.
Description
This dissertation investigates the emerging global landscape of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived therapies, focusing on the economic and biomanufacturing dimensions that underpin their transition into clinical practice. Although more than 100 interventional trials have been launched since 2014, the commercial and manufacturing requirements necessary to support large-scale deployment remain insufficiently defined. To address this gap, the study integrates global clinical trial data with archetype-driven biomanufacturing models to quantify current and future market demand for iPSC-derived cell therapies. Findings indicate rapid growth in the global biomanufacturing market, from USD 0.6 million to USD 6.1 million over seven years, with projections reaching USD 15.9 million by 2035. This work provides the first structured and data-driven assessment of biomanufacturing demand for iPSC-based therapies, offering critical insights for policymakers, investors, and industry stakeholders aiming to shape the future of regenerative medicine.
