Abstract

Phototherapy involves the biological application of light in different disciplines of medicine and dentistry. With regard to endodontic therapy aspect, the main goal is to disinfect the canals, including an invasive mechanical removal and subsequent prevention of possible microbial invasion into the decontaminated tooth roots; however, failure to completely remove bacteria will, at some point, lead to secondary infections that will require further intervention  The inquiring of a direct application of light with a lack of exogenous chemicals, lower photon energy of long wavelengths and direct action of decontamination is on high demand. ABL has these features which gain itself an advantage over the other light therapies. In Vitro and Vivo studies, it has been proved that aBL with appropriate irradiation and dose parameters and understanding a tooth microstructure will have a high efficacy against pathogenic microbes. Therefore, it has been acknowledged as a novel light-based approach.
