dc.description.abstractThe notion of line managers is not a new phenomenon in human resources management literature. Recently, researchers highlighted that implementing performance management become line mangers’ responsibility. However, line managers and HR professional often have dissonant opinions about implementation responsibilities. This study illustrates how line managers play important role in implementing performance management and seeks understanding of enablers that facilitate effective implementation. Here we say, line managers have a crucial role in successful implementation of performance management in public sector at Saudi Arabia. Using a single case study and semi structured interview with five-line managers in different managerial level. The findings of thematic analysis demonstrate that line managers have an essential role in implementing performance management; also, their competencies and their understanding of horizontal and vertical integration between performance inputs or results with other functions are critical enablers. Our findings also have implications for supporting and empowering line managers to have successful implementation of performance management.
